I have always considered myself a faithful person. As a child I have many memories of belonging to a church community. When my family moved to Iowa when I was 12, we never joined a church. I still considered myself a Christian and just because we didn’t belong to a church, didn’t mean I wasn’t serving our Almighty God. I have vivid memories of accepting Christ as my Lord and Savior. I have always prayed daily and made my decisions walking in our Heavenly Father’s path. Before my husband and I were married, we participated in pre-marital counseling with my grandfather’s pastor. This was a time for us to grow closer together as one and set the foundation for our marriage. Once I became a mother, I drew even closer to God. I needed those moments. I often found myself asking “What has God called me to do?” In these moments I knew I needed to dig deep into my faith. This is where my true journey started to grow.
Now, my favorite moment of the day is spending time in worship. Reading my devotional and studying the scripture. There is really something powerful about taking in the silence, alone in my thoughts, finding all the answers. Not only reading, but intentionally studying the Word. I have found that during the times I am feeling anxious, afraid, or unsure, the answer is always in the scripture. I have learned to let go and let God, and that is when the miracles start to happen. The mindset starts to shift. I have also learned to pray incessantly, not just at certain times of the day but throughout my day. There is so much power in prayer. Another habit that quickly formed was listening to worship music or listening to a sermon from my favorite church. Surrounding yourself with these habits is life changing, and when you are modeling the behavior for your children, the rest falls into place naturally.
Being a parent is hard, especially these days. If I can teach my children just one thing, it is the power of God. The importance of spreading the Word. To be kind, always and love hard. The world needs more love and kindness now more than ever. We have had moments that bring us to tears, tears of joy. The first time I played “Away in a Manger” during one of our Christmas lessons last year, holding both of my children tight, all of us singing, moved us to tears. They felt the movement of the Holy Spirit, and it was strong. We have had moments that we are called to slow down and be intentional. I will never forget a morning when I was rushing around cleaning the house, going from task to task, and my 4-year-old daughter said, “Mommy, I need to pray and talk to God, will you pray with me?” I stopped in my tracks. “Absolutely, Sis. What should we pray for?” They are always watching. They see me pray. They see my prayers answered. They are building their faith. Make the most of these moments now, for the goodness to come, and for the sake of eternity.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.James 1:17
Every choice we make shapes us. Not just in the big ways, but the small ways, too. It is so important for us to be intentional with our time. Give ourselves grace. Be stewards of our lives, our time, our talents, to glorify Him in all that we say and do. Ask yourself if you are serving God by the way you are serving others, and remember, give God glory, always.
The Bible I love is The Busy Moms Bible NIV. It is designed for the moms on the go with 52 devotions included, whether you have 1 minute, 5 minutes, or 10 minutes to give you inspirational reading throughout your busy day. I start my day with reading my devotional and often have ah-ha moments, God knows what messages we need each day. The current one I am reading is The Better Mom Devotional: Shaping Our Hearts as we Shape Our Homes. No matter what season of motherhood you find yourself in, God can use this time to make you more like His Son – and a better mom. I am also using The Bible Study: A One-Year Study of the Bible and How It Relates to You to breakdown and really understand the Word. There is also a planner that was created to go along with the Bible study to grow your relationship with God. I have used The Best Season Planner to track my thoughts and my journey and have found it helpful. Other items I use is a Journal to write down my favorite scriptures, there’s just something about putting pen to paper. I also love the Bible Highlighter & Pens. I hope these resources help you to dig deep into your faith and grow closer to God.
Growing your relationship with God is the most important thing you can do. How can I help you dig deep into your faith? How can I pray for you today?
